President and CEO of this Portland-based design and manufacturing firm, currently producing and distributing HearFonestm for the music and speech therapy trades. See www.hearfones.com


GTE Corporation (1973 - 1994)

First employed as Senior Product Development Engineer, working to develop Hazard Warning Flasher and Turn-Signal Flasher product lines. These electromechanical products helped establish GTE's Sylvania products as pre-eminent in the automotive OEM and aftermarket field.

Chosen to lead GTE's 1981 entry into a new market of protectors for telecommunication lines, using GTE arresters made in France. Through international cooperative development of the arrester, sales grew exponentially from 1983 to $40M annually in 1993. Product line expanded from none to over 1,200 "copper" and fiber-optic products designed, developed and commercialized, including world's first solid-state protectors.

Appointed Engineering Manager and Manager of Telecomm New Product Development, supporting a team of 15. Eleven U. S. patents and several foreign patents; 1987 Leslie H. Warner Technical Achievement Award ($10,000). Product line was sold out of state in fall 1993 as part of GTE's decision to abandon manufacturing.


U. S. Navy (1966 - 1972) Lieutenant (SECRET clearance)

Tactical Commander, Airborne Antisubmarine Warfare: led a team of four officers and eight enlisted personnel as flight crew of SP-2H and P-3B patrol aircraft. Served in Mediterranean theater supporting Sixth Fleet operations during mid-east crises.

Material Control Officer: led a department of two to five enlisted and one junior officer, supporting the operational and maintenance requirements of Patrol Squadron 23 and later the entire NAS Brunswick Aircraft Maintenance Department, including responsibility for all capital equipment.

Ground Support Officer: led a department of two chiefs and forty enlisted personnel, responsible for maintaining and disbursing all ground support equipment, and for training squadron personnel in its safe and proper use.
